GBGO - the end of an era

Dear Golf Enthusiasts

It is hard to believe that it has already been more than two months since the latest German Boys and Girls Open, and we would like to thank you once again for participating in the 19th edition of the German Boys and Girls Open at the Golf Club St. Leon-Rot.

Today we would like to inform you that after 19 great years, Golf Club St. Leon-Rot has decided to no longer hold the German Boys and Girls Open. Although this decision was certainly not easy, the International Amateur Championship for Boys and Girls will continue to take place, but no longer with us and no longer under the name German Boys and Girls Open.

You can view the annual calendar of the German Golf Association to find out the exact date of the 2024 International Boys and Girls Amateur Championship HERE.

First held in 2004, the German Boys and Girls Open has steadily gained in international importance due to its sporting quality and professional organization. This year alone, over 225 athletes from 29 different nations took part in this top-class tournament and, as every year, it has filled us with joy to welcome so many young players from all over the world here at Golf Club St. Leon-Rot. It is also worth mentioning that for the first time since its beginning, almost 50 college coaches from the USA came to the GBGO, which shows that this tournament and its participants have also drawn great interest on an international level. Due to the quality of the tournament and its participants, this year, the GBGO was not only a qualifying tournament for the Junior Solheim Cup but also for the Junior Ryder Cup.

Special thanks are due to our Honorary President Dietmar Hopp and President Daniel Hopp for their generous support of the tournament. Without their help, it would not have been possible to hold an amateur event of this kind.

We would also like to thank our long-time partner PING, who has consistently supported us over the years and who was actively involved again this year. Representatives from our partners Titleist and Upgame were also on hand during the tournament. Their presence made the tournament an even more meaningful event. As a new partner this year, we would also like to thank LIDL, our "Official Fresh Food Partner", who provided players and coaches with fresh fruit, power bars and cool drinks during the tournament.

Finally, we would like to thank the members of Golf Club St. Leon-Rot. Your understanding and support contributed towards the tournament’s success. You have been an important part of this first-class event, and we are grateful for your hospitality and enthusiasm for golf.

We hope you all had wonderful times at the German Boys & Girls Open at St. Leon-Rot Golf Club and that you will keep these memories for a long time to come, just like we will.

Until then, we wish you great success and continued joy in the game of golf.

Your Team GBGO
